I was first introduced to Junior Boys in 2006 through their second album, “So This Is Goodbye”–a spare electronic LP with founding member Jeremy Greenspan’s velvety vocals mourning about roads past traveled–and was hooked.
This Canadian/German duo has since played in less than ideal situations in New York, first in a short-lived set with Metroarea’s Morgan Geist under inclement weather in 2008 Long Island Taxi Beach and shutting down five minutes into their set from a faulty circuit board at 2009’s Webster Hall performance.
Their sound prevails with their upcoming title track for its release, “Big Black Coat”, out February 2016, with a scheduled appearance on 3/31 at Webster Hall. Its beats emulate swishing coat sounds into a stylized swagger, dovetailing with the spread of black on the runways. Noir is back, and so are the Junior Boys.
